Wat Arun entrance fee 2026 at a glance
Foreign visitors pay THB 200 to enter Wat Arun in 2026. Thai citizens enter free of charge. The temple is open every day from 08:00 to 18:00. If you see THB 100 quoted elsewhere, plan for THB 200.
Visitors usually pay at the entrance, and cash is the safe choice. The temple stands on the west bank of the Chao Phraya, in the Bangkok Yai district on the Thonburi side, at 34 Arunamarin Road. Most visitors cross the river by ferry from Tha Tien, which is covered on the getting there page.
A guided tour can take care of the logistics, but not every tour includes the temple fee. Compare the list of what is included before you book.

What to budget besides the entry fee
The ticket is only part of a visit. These are the other small costs.
The ferry across the river
The ferry from Tha Tien to the temple is a separate fare of a few baht, paid in cash. The fare is THB 5 to THB 7 per person. It runs from early morning until about 19:00.
Getting to Wat Arun โCover-ups
If your clothes do not fit the rules, cover-ups can be rented or borrowed at the temple for a small fee. Do not count on a free loan or a fixed price.
Dress code โGuided tours
Some tours list the temple fee in the price, others add it on top. Read the included and excluded lists before you compare totals.
Wat Arun tours compared โNeighbouring sites
Wat Pho and the Grand Palace each have their own ticket. Both are close to the Tha Tien pier on the opposite bank.
Wat Pho โBring small notes and coins. You pay the entry fee and the ferry separately, and change can be slow to find early in the morning or at busy times. A few notes in small denominations make both payments quick.
Do not assume that the entry fee covers water, ice, borrowed clothing or a second entry on the same day. Treat it as one visit.
Wat Arun, Wat Pho and the Grand Palace compared
Entry for foreign visitors in 2026. Thai citizens with valid ID enter Wat Pho and the palace free, and Wat Arun free.
| Site | Foreign visitors | Hours | Good to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wat Arun | THB 200 | 08:00 to 18:00 | West bank, reached by ferry from Tha Tien |
| Wat Pho | THB 300 | 08:00 or 08:30 to 19:30 | Individual buildings may close earlier than the general hours |
| Grand Palace | THB 500, with Wat Phra Kaew and the Queen Sirikit Museum of Textiles | 08:30 to 15:30 | Ticket sales end at 15:30; strict dress code |
For most first-time visitors, the best order is the palace and Wat Pho in the morning, then the ferry to Wat Arun in the afternoon. The palace closes first, Wat Arun stays open until 18:00, and the river is a good way to end the day. Details are on the Wat Pho and Grand Palace pages.
Opening hours and special days
The temple is open daily from 08:00 to 18:00. Plan to be inside well before closing time, because the walk around the courtyard and the prang takes longer than most people expect.
The evening lighting is a view from the riverbank. It does not mean that the paid area stays open after 18:00. For viewpoints and timing, see Wat Arun at night.
Regular daily hours are not a promise for ceremonial days. A royal barge procession ending at Wat Arun is announced for 6 November 2026. If you travel around that date, check the arrangements for the day before you set out and keep a second plan for the afternoon.
If someone near the gate tells you the temple is closed and offers a different trip, walk to the entrance and check for yourself.
