Wat Pho at a glance
Wat Pho stands on Sanam Chai Road and Maharaj Road, next to the Grand Palace on the east side of the Chao Phraya. From the Wat Arun side you reach it with a short crossing from the Tha Tien pier. Most visitors pair the two temples in one outing, with the palace as a third stop.
The best-known sight is the reclining Buddha, a figure 46 m long. The grounds also hold courtyards with decorated chedis and cloisters with rows of smaller ones. Wat Pho is a working temple, so dress and behave as you would at Wat Arun.

The evening closing time is the time of the grounds, not a promise that every hall stays open until then. Check the current timetable at the gate, and do not plan on seeing the reclining Buddha in the last half hour. The Wat Pho ticket is separate from the Wat Arun ticket and from the Grand Palace ticket.
For most visitors, the easy plan is Wat Pho in the morning, the ferry across, and Wat Arun in the afternoon, and finish on the east bank, where you can look across the river toward Wat Arun at sunset. Details on the evening view are on the Wat Arun at night page.

The sights people come for.
The reclining Buddha

Cloisters
The covered cloisters hold rows of figures and small chedis. They give shade on hot afternoons.
Massage school
Wat Pho links to its traditional medical school. Massage hours are 08:00โ19:30. Thai massage and foot massage each cost THB 340 for 30 minutes, THB 520 for 60 minutes and THB 1,040 for 120 minutes. Confirm prices and free slots on site.

From Wat Arun to Wat Pho
The crossing takes only a few minutes.
Take the cross-river ferry between Wat Arun and the Tha Tien pier. Tha Tien is pier N8 on the express boat map. The fare is a few baht, between THB 5 and THB 7, and you pay in cash. The ferry runs about every 10 minutes from around 05:00 until around 19:00, but the last crossing time varies, so do not plan a late return on it.
From Sanam Chai MRT station (BL31, Blue Line) you can also walk to the ferry. The full routes by ferry, express boat and MRT are on the getting to Wat Arun page.
Next door to Wat Pho is the Grand Palace, with its own ticket and a stricter dress code.

What to wear and how to behave
Wat Pho asks for respectful clothing.
Wear respectful clothing. Women should not wear shorts above the knee. Follow the signs inside the buildings. The Wat Arun dress code page lists similar rules and covers rented cover-ups.
